What Is Hope in Christ?

Our mission at Gaston Hope In Christ is to Build Relationships to Enrich Lives. We develop character, confidence, and community through relationships with students and families. We accomplish this through tutoring academically at-risk students, mentoring teen leaders, and teaching non-native English learners.

What Makes Gaston Hope in Christ So Special?

Gaston Hope in Christ is a local ministry of area churches and individuals who have worked together to meet the needs for those in our communities since 1999.  Our main program is Hope in Christ Tutoring, which offers free tutoring after school three days. During this time, we provide a caring, learning, growing environment for students. 

We have provided college internships and high school student enrichment programs in the summer to promote community awareness, service, build teamwork, develop character, and leadership skills.

2024-2025 will be our seventh year and fourth full year of English Hope, offering English as a Second Language (ESL) to adult learners. All of our programs and efforts are at no or very little cost to participants, and most of our program staff are volunteers. All of our income must come from other sources. We use donations from churches, groups and individuals, as well as fundraising and gifts from partners and others to further our mission.

Gaston Hope in Christ is governed by a diverse local board of directors made up of educators, friends, and program participants. Our programs and services are offered to all without regard for race, creed, background or personal choices or beliefs. Participants are not required to attend any church activities to be in our programs, nor to have any specific faith or cultural background, beliefs or habits.

VOLUNTEER WITH GASTON HOPE IN CHRIST!

Since 1999, the backbone of our programs has been the high school students, young adults, parents, teachers, community leaders, retirees, and others who have helped our programs succeed. People who are able to help for 2 or more hours a month can be a part of Hope in Christ. See How You Can Help!

• We always need wonderful tutors—folks who can read with students, help them with their schoolwork, play games with them, and just care for them at least once a month for 2-3 hours (3 to 6 pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays).
