GASTON HOPE IN CHRIST TUTORING

Since the fall of 1999, Gaston Hope in Christ and Eastside Church of the Nazarene have provided Hope in Christ® Tutoring for students. Continuing this year, students come to work and play with our staff and volunteers in a fun, safe environment on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from school dismissal until 6. (students must be picked up by 6:30)

We have five Goals for each student:
1. Each Student is valued as a person & participates in helpful relationships, in groups and as individuals.
2. Each Student receives 2-3 hours of God’s love daily from caring staff and volunteers.
3. Each Student improves academic performance, ability, and schoolwork
4. They improve social skills, build character, and achieve personal goals.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A DAY?

Students are either brought by school bus (Holbrook), van, or by family or friends. A parent or adult must pick up students and talk with staff about the student's day and work.
Each Student receives daily academic support, practice in reading and basic math facts, and encouragement and support from caring staff and volunteers. We aim to improve academic performance, build character, and plan and achieve personal goals.
We will provide a mid-session snack. We use the www.classdojo.com application to offer student incentives and give families real-time updates on student work & activity.

ATTENDANCE AND BEHAVIOR

Please let us know as soon as possible about upcoming absences. Spaces are limited. Students may miss no more than 2 days per month unless there is a medical or other emergency.

This will be a safe space for everyone. Disrespect of anyone, lying, stealing, fighting or making fun of others (even "in fun") are not tolerated. We want all the students here to feel safe and free to learn and grow.

There will be one warning, one conversation with a parent, one suspension, then expulsion from the program.

As in schools, we have a no-bullying policy. Any physical, verbal, or emotional manipulation or bullying of another (staff or student) will lead to a suspension and can lead to removal from the program. We want all the students here to feel safe and free to learn and grow.

HOW MUCH IS IT? - ONLY $20 PER WEEK

The program costs us about $100 per student each week. But because of our partners, including student families, foundations, churches, businesses, and individuals who support our work, we are making our programs available for less. We ask for a weekly contribution of up to $20 per student (about $2 per hour!).
If our van picks your student up (selected schools), we ask for an additional $5 per week ($25 total).
If you work on a different pay cycle, we can accept payments that way if the $20 per week is covered.
