GASTON HOPE IN CHRIST TUTORING
We have 5 goals for each student that ultimately lead to cooperation, respect for
and sensitivity to others, joint problem-solving & daily success.
1. They are valued as a person & participate in helpful relationships
2. They receive God's love and our support each day
3. They improve academic performance, ability, and schoolwork
4. They improve social skills, build character, and achieve personal goals
5. We work together to grow as people.
WHAT WE DO
Gaston Hope in Christ Tutoring is a learning and character-building tutoring program for 3rd—8th grade students. We offer 3 1/2-hour sessions from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
The sessions include study sessions with tutors, breaks, games, and a snack.
Each student receives academic support, practice in reading and basic math facts, and encouragement and support from caring staff and volunteers each day. Our goal is to improve academic performance, build character, plan & achieve personal goals.
Students are either transported by bus (Gardner Park and Holbrook students) or must be dropped off.
Students must be picked up by a parent or adult who will talk with staff about the student's day and work.
We use the www.classdojo.com application to offer student incentives and give families real-time updates on student work & activity. Please let us know about upcoming absences as soon as possible.
Thanks to Generous Partners and Donors, our programs are free. We do ask for "What You Can Pay" to help fund our programs. ($20 is a suggested share of the $150 our program costs for each student each week)
New students begin in our 2025-2026 program on October 7. Applications must be submitted two weeks before a student starts, and an interview with the student and family must be conducted before the student begins.
Applications for new students will be online on September 1, 2025
